    TRANSFORMERS - AGE OF EXTINCTION HEADING UP FOR A $100 MILLION WEEKEND


    Transformers: Age Of Extinction Boxoffice

    The film had its world premiere in Hong Kong on June 19, with a live concert by Imagine Dragons.

    DOMESTIC:
    The film earned $8.75 million on screenings of Thursday preview night, making it the third biggest opening in 2014 behind Godzilla ($10.5 million) The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ($9.2 million). On Friday the film grossed an additional $31.25 million bringing it's total day gross to $41.6 million making it the biggest opening for a film in 2014. 

    The movie will surely collect at least $100 million this weekend. Transformers franchise opened ahead of last month's Godzilla, which previously held the 2014 opening day record with $38.4 million. Among Transformers movies, it lagged significantly behind Revenge of the Fallen ($62 million) and was a bit lower than Dark of the Moon ($43.2 million when counting day-early previews).For the weekend, Age of Extinction is on track to earn around $105 million (Paramount is more conservatively estimating $100 million).

    INTERNATIONAL:
    The movie is doing even more impressive business overseas, where it has already earned $80 million. It opened to an estimated $30 million in China, which is the biggest opening day ever for a non-Chinese movie. It has also racked up huge two-day totals in Russia ($10.4 million), South Korea ($9.1 million).

    The film released on June 27, 2014 in IMAX and 3D. The movie opened to generally unfavorable reviews from some critics. On the other hand, the audience has a different take on the movie. Most of the people on social media and websites/blogs loved the movie for its plot and extreme cutting edge special effects.

    The film was panned by film critics, particularly criticizing its plot, script, direction, acting, and length, but some praising the film's action scenes and visual effects, as well as the performances by Wahlberg and Tucci.

    The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz & Jack Reynor in lead roles.
    Kelsey Grammer, Stanley Tucci, and Sophia Myles also star in the Michael Bay-directed movie. The budget of the movie is reported to be $180-200 million.

    Plot:
    "As humanity picks up the pieces, following the conclusion of "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," Autobots and Decepticons have all but vanished from the face of the planet. However, a group of powerful, ingenious businessman and scientists attempt to learn from past Transformer incursions and push the boundaries of technology beyond what they can control - all while an ancient, powerful Transformer menace sets Earth in his cross-hairs."
