The team behind award-winning documentary Senna have returned with a new through-the-lense look at Amy Winehouse’s life. NOW, Asif Kapadia’s documentary on fame, mental illness and Amy Winehouse, has its first trailer.
Told in the late singer’s own words with extensive unseen archival footage and previously unheard tracks, the documentary is set to tell one of the most tragic stories of the music industry in the 21st century.
'AMY' The film follows the talented singer from her rise to fame to the personal difficulties she suffered following her problems with addiction that led to her death.

Plot:
"Asif Kapadia's 90' minutes documentary on the six-time Grammy-winner will feature previously unseen archive footage and seek to tell the London performer's tragic story in her own words. Amy Winehouse died from alcoholic poisoning in July 2011 at the age of 27. James Gay-Rees will produce through Playmaker Films and Universal Music is on board as co-producer. "This is an incredibly modern, emotional and relevant film that has the power to capture the zeitgeist and shine a light on the world we live in, in a way that very few films can," said Kapadia and Gay-Rees. Amy was a once-in-a-generation talent who captured everyone's attention. She wrote and sung from the heart and everyone fell under her spell. But tragically Amy seemed to fall apart under the relentless media attention, her troubled relationships, her global success and precarious lifestyle. As a society we celebrated her huge success but then we were quick to judge her failings when it suited us."
A press release for the film states: “Her huge success, however, resulted in relentless and invasive media attention, which coupled with Amy’s troubled relationships and precarious lifestyle, saw her life tragically begin to unravel.”
Winehouse died from alcohol poisoning in July 2011 at the age of 27.
The singer won five Grammy Awards for her second album Back to Black, which broke records at the time of her death to become the UK’s best-selling album of the 21st century.
AMY will be released in the UK on 3 July.
