Disney's 'Frozen 2' Sequel In The Works!

Get ready for another cold front!

Walt Disney Animation Studios just confirmed that Frozen 2 is officially a go. John Lasseter, the CCO of Pixar and Disney, announced news of the sequel during the company’s annual shareholders meeting in San Francisco earlier today.

The announcement comes just days before the release of the animated short Frozen Fever, which will screen in theaters ahead of Cinderella this Friday.

Fans of the film — which shattered box office records when it debuted in 2013 — have long been clamoring for a sequel, but the stars, including Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell, and creatives attached to the project offered little hope that anything was in development.

In November, Menzel briefly sent fans into a tizzy after she told The Telegraph that a stage musical and sequel “were all in the works,” only to backtrack later during an appearance on the Today Show.

Meanwhile, the co-creators and directors of Frozen, Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, indicated to BuzzFeed News earlier this week that they weren’t quite ready to start thinking about a sequel.

“Like with the short, it was so daunting until we found the story,” Lee told BuzzFeed. “Then it was all of the things it usually is and we were thinking of every emotion and moment and feeling. I think that’s all we can do. Until we find our way into what’s next, emotionally, it will feel too big.”

According to Variety, both Lee and Buck have signed on to develop the sequel, along with producer Peter Del Vecho.
