Boxoffice: Cinderella Tops The Weekend With $132 Million Globally!

Disney's Cinderella live-action romantic fantasy opened on Friday to a tremendous response, both from the audience and the critics. It raked in $23 million on Friday (including strong Thursday night shows).

“Cinderella” enchanted audiences this weekend, racking up a royal $70.1 million to lead the domestic box office and $132 million globally.

The adaptation of the fairy tale follows Walt Disney Studios’ strategy of raiding its animated favorites for live action blockbusters — an approach that led to such prior successes as “Maleficent” and “Alice in Wonderland,” and one the studio plans to employ on “Dumbo” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

The rest of the 9 movies out of the Top 10 grossed a combine total of $16 million on Friday. Cinderella turned out to be a clear winner and this shows how much dominant the movie was this weekend.

The second opener, "Run All Night" (Warner Bros.), starring Liam Nesson debuted to a poor $11 Million weekend which is much lower than Neeson's last action thriller 'Taken 3'

Cinderella released on March 13, 2015.

The film is written by Aline Brosh McKenna and Chris Weitz and stars Lily James as the Titular character while Cate Blanchett will be seen playing Lady Tremaine.

    Plot:
"The story of "Cinderella" follows the fortunes of young Ella whose merchant father remarries following the tragic death of her mother. Keen to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother Lady Tremaine and her daughters Anastasia and Drizella into the family home. But, when Ella's father suddenly and unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella since she used to work in the cinders, Ella could easily begin to lose hope. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother's dying words and to "have courage and be kind." She will not give in to despair nor despise those who abuse her. And then there is the dashing stranger she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an employee at the Palace, Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul."
