Benedict Cumberbatch has come on board Warner Bros.’ live-action version of “Jungle Book: Origins” as the voice of the villainous tiger Shere Khan.
The studio recently dated “Jungle Book: Origins” for Oct. 21, 2016 — a year and a week after Disney’s rival project opens.
The Sherlock star will join the live-action version of The Jungle Book as the evil tiger in Warner Bros production of the classic tale, Jungle Book: Origins.
Lord of the Rings actor Andy Serkis will direct the movie after Alejandro González Iñárritu was forced to pull out due to scheduling conflicts.
Harry Potter screenwriter Steve Kloves will produce the remake and his daughter Callie Kloves will be writing the movie.
Disney is also planning a live-action adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's work which stars Bill Murray as Baloo, Christopher Walkden as orangutan King Louie and Lucy star Scarlett Johansson will play the snake Kaa.
The casting of Cumberbatch is the first for "Jungle Book: Origins." It is the first feature directing gig for Serkis, although the actor was a second unit director on two of Peter Jackson’s “Hobbit” movies
