DRAFT DAY BOXOFFICE REPORT
Draft Day is a sports drama film directed by Ivan Reitman and starring Kevin Costner. It was released on April 11, 2014. The story revolves around the general manager of the Cleveland Browns Played by Kevin Costner deciding what to do when his team acquires the number one draft pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. The film premiered in Los Angeles on April 7, 2014, with its United States release following on April 11.
Draft day under performed at the boxoffice and seem to be struggling putting up very low numbers. Draft Day had plenty of promotion leading up to its release. Kevin Costner, Jennifer Garner and Denis Leary promoted the film well before its US release. Despite the NFL's star power and a star-studded cast, it failed to perform well at the box office.
The film grossed $10.7 million opening weekend, finishing in 4th place at the box office behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Rio 2, and Oculus. Although the film received positive reviews from the critics with an average score of 6/10 on Rotten Tomatoes, the boxoffice gallery was a bit empty post release.
As of May 4, 2014 the film has grossed $26.5 million, against a $50 million budget which isn't good. According to BoxOffice.com, Draft Day has made less than $20 million through its first 10 days of release. After opening with a tepid $9.7 million, the film grossed a mere $5.9 million over Easter weekend. And with an estimated cost of $50 million, that makes it a major disappointment.
